Editor, Daily Nexus,

This letter is in regards to Shannon Lamb’s article (“Religious Studies To Open Catholic Focus” Daily Nexus, Oct. 20).

I have to say kudos to the Religious Studies Dept. on its creation of the Catholic Studies program. As a junior religious studies major, I have found that while there are a number of courses on Christianity in general, the number of courses on Catholicism, one of the world’s major religions, is desperately lacking. Right now, there is only one class devoted to Catholicism, while other major religious players such as Islam, Judaism and Buddhism have a plethora of courses dedicated to looking at their particular tradition. This is a much-needed addition to the current curriculum and I’m sure many students, myself included, will be looking forward to seeing what new courses will be available later this year.
