Las Vegas, Nev., was the destination for the UCSB bowling team this weekend as it competed in the Brunswick Coca-Cola Classic. Santa Barbara emerged from the tournament in 27th place out of 35 teams.

This was the second tournament that UCSB has taken two teams to compete, and the Gauchos thought having an “A” and a “B” team there might help their chances.

“With two teams there and cheering, having more enthusiasm really added to our energy,” senior captain Michelle Cultera said. “But we still had a very rough first day.”

The Gauchos faced an unexpected PBA professional pattern, which made for tough lane conditions.

“It was a struggle to adjust,” senior Josh Aranda said. “But we came together and entered the second day with a positive attitude.”

After the first day of bowling, the team had a meeting, which allowed them to go into their second day of competition with motivation and confidence.

“Not getting depressed or down on ourselves was very important,”
