A Santa Barbara resident was killed Saturday night after he was run-over by a car traveling near the intersection of Calle Real and El Sueno Road.

Mike Allen Dickey, 50, was walking along the 4300 block of Calle Real in front of the Nomad Village motor home/ mobile home park just after 8 p.m. According to a release from the California Highway Patrol, witnesses said Dickey seemed “extremely intoxicated” and was unable to maintain his balance. Witnesses said he fell off the sidewalk and hit his head on the curb, resulting in a large gash on the back of his head.

After asking the witnesses if they could give him a ride, the highway patrol said Dickey stumbled into the eastbound lane of Calle Real, where he fell and hit the back of his head again. He was struck by a 1998 Chevy Lumina as he lay in the road. Police said the car was traveling 25 miles per hour.

The car’s driver, Velma Villa, told police she heard a noise and her felt her car thump. She then stopped her car, got out and realized she had hit someone.

The report stated that the incident happened in an area where there are few streetlights. The Santa Barbara Coroner’s Office will be conducting a toxicology report to determine Dickey’s level of intoxication at the time of his death.
