The MultiCultural Center presents Holy Dirt, a play by Marcos Martinez and Cheyney Ryan. Holy Dirt chronicles the comic life journeys of a small town Chicano actor as he navigates the worlds of art and commercialism in search of a compromise between idealistic fulfillment and self-respect. The performance will be held at the MultiCultural Center Theater beginning at 8 p.m. Admission is free. Or get your Halloween weekend started early and go to the Anthropology Student Union’s Halloween Movie Night find, where they’ll be screening “Dawn of the Dead” and holding a discussion on the origins of zombies in film and literature. Treats will be provided! The event is at the McCune Conference Room at 8 p.m.

Arts & Lectures presents The Jazz Passengers with “Creature from the Black Lagoon.” The Jazz Passengers will be doing a radio play-style take on the 1954 camp horror classic, turning off the film’s sound and performing new dialogue and music. It’ll happen at Campbell Hall at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5 for students and $6 for the general public. Or, spend Halloween weekend with your favorite wild creatures. The Santa Barbara Zoo’s “Boo At the Zoo” features monstrous thrills and chills including a Trick or Treat Trail, train rides, creepy crawly encounters, spooky storytelling, goblin games, nightly costume parades, ghoulish goodies and much more. The fun happens from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. $9 for adults and $7 for children.

What band would be better to see than the Misfits on Halloween weekend? These spooky punk-rock legends will be celebrating their favorite holiday at the Ventura Theater tonight, so gather your fellow fiends and get ready to rock. The event features the music of ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra), a silent auction, games and a costume contest. The event is a benefit for COAST. Doors open at 8 p.m. Admission is $13. Sunday is Halloween! If you’re not out trick-or-treating, then you can go see “Tales From the Box” at the Lobero Theater. The event stars BOXTALES Theatre Company. Experience the chilling stories, thrilling music and fun prizes, then boogie down with Lady Death herself at the Witching Hour After Party. Bring a date and do Halloween in style, sans kegs and mounted police. It all starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35 for the show, or $45 to see the show and come to the after hours celebration. Today, there’s nothing more important for you to do than going to your polling place and voting. Don’t make any excuses, just do it. As P. Diddy says, “Vote or die!” And as a reward for your fulfillment of civic responsibility, not only will you not die, you will also be able to attend a screening of “Shrek 2,” presented by the Associated Students Program Board. This charming story of a green ogre finding a match made in swamp heaven is sure to take your mind off the polls for a couple of hours. The screening will be held at Isla Vista Theater 1. There are two showings, one at 7:30 p.m. and another at 10 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door. They’re $3/students and $5/general.

The Associated Students Program Board presents another installment of their noontime concerts in Storke Plaza today. The Westminster Abbey will be rocking your lunchtime for free, so check it out. In the evening, Arts and Lectures will be presenting a performance by singer Angelique Kidjo. She’s known to wow audiences with the funky punch of her R&B-based Afro-pop music. She’s been nominated for three Grammy awards and is making major waves in the United States. You may know her from the bubbly duet with Dave Matthews, “Iwoya.” She’s on tour in support of her most recent CD, “Oyaya.” The event starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35/general and $17/students.
