Editor, Daily Nexus,

It is ridiculous that all of the parking areas on campus are signed “Permits required Monday through Sunday 7 a.m. until 10 p.m.” There should be no need for a parking permit when all of the lots are three-quarters empty. I completely understand the permit system during prime hours; however, after 5 p.m. during the week, nobody is fighting for parking spaces anymore. In addition, on the weekends no one is on campus, let alone using the parking areas.

In addition, permit-free parking could improve campus safety. If someone has a late lecture on campus then they could drive to class, instead of walking in the dark. Clearly, the hours of the permit policy should be changed. The campus would also save money on labor hired to enforce parking regulations. The lots are often empty in the evenings and someone is patrolling. Nobody should be working to enforce these absurd regulations when there are no shortages of parking spaces. I think that everybody would benefit from the hours being changed to 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.
