Police responding to an emergency call Sunday morning found an unidentified woman lying on the beach with major injuries, apparently the result of a fall from the cliffs along Del Playa Drive.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Dept. was notified at 8:37 a.m. and dispatched rescue personnel to the scene, Fire Dept. spokesman Charlie Johnson said. Paramedics stabilized the semiconscious victim on the beach below the 6700 block of DP and transported her in an ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Hospital personnel would not provide information regarding the woman’s condition on Wednesday.

As of yet, the woman’s family has chosen not to release any information about her, including her name. Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Dept. spokesman Sgt. Chris Pappas said he could not divulge many details regarding the incident, but he said the woman was badly hurt when she was discovered on the beach.

“She sustained very, very serious injuries, including a skull fracture,” Pappas said.

Pappas said police have found no evidence of foul play, but are still investigating what caused the woman to fall.

“It appears to be accidental,” Pappas said. “The challenging thing about this incident is that there were no witnesses; no one saw her fall. We have to put together the puzzle ourselves.”
