An inmate of the Santa Barbara County Jail is still at large after he escaped Saturday around 3 p.m.

Miguel Angel Ramos, 20, was an inmate at the jail’s Honor Farm, a minimum-security facility that sponsors work programs for the inmates. Sheriff’s Dept. spokesman Chris Pappas said Ramos had been working with a kitchen crew when he escaped through a partially open gate. The gate had been opened to allow a van into the kitchen’s loading dock.

“Ramos was observed running through the gate just before it closed behind the van,” Pappas said. “Responding units established a perimeter near the area where Ramos was last seen. K-9 units were also deployed to aid in the search.”

Ramos was in jail for misdemeanor charges and was scheduled to be released into the custody of Border Patrol in September, Pappas said.

Ramos is a Hispanic male with black hair and brown eyes. He is 5’7″ and weighs 150 lbs. Pappas said anyone with information on Ramos’ whereabouts should call the Sheriff’s department at 681-4100 or the Crimestoppers tip line at (877) 800-9100.
