Three men were arrested early Saturday morning for allegedly striking several people with bricks and glass bottles and smashing windows at a residence on the 6600 block of Sabado Tarde.

According to the Isla Vista Foot Patrol, a resident of the house told a large man to stop urinating on his fence. After a brief argument, the resident returned to his yard to avoid a further confrontation, but the man and two associates followed him and began throwing bricks.

“One of the residents was inside his house when a suspect smashed his door open and forced entry,” said Sheriff’s Dept. Sgt. Tom Walton. “The resident was chased through the house and two of the suspects beat him with bottles.”

The victim who was attacked inside the house suffered minor injuries. He would not comment Sunday evening regarding the incident, and wished to remain unidentified for fear of gang-related retaliation. Aldo Ernesto Ceja, a visitor to the house, was struck with a brick but suffered only minor injuries and could not be reached for comment. A 17-year-old boy who was also visiting the house suffered a fractured bone in his hand upon being struck with a bottle. It is Daily Nexus policy not to disclose the identities of victims, suspects or witnesses who are under the age of 18.

Walton said the suspects had already fled by the time officers arrived, but not before claiming an association with a Los Angeles-based gang.

“Witnesses did say the suspects made mention of Asian gang affiliation as they fled,” Walton said.

According to police reports, a resident across the street from the incident reported seeing three men prowling in the back yard of the residence. The caller told police the men threatened, “if our friends get a case number, you guys are gonna pay.”

University Police officers spotted several individuals at the corner of Camino Del Sur and Sabado Tarde who matched the descriptions of the assailants. Witnesses identified the suspects during an infield line-up, telling police they were “110 percent sure” these were the men responsible.

John Kaing, 22, from Isla Vista, Sam Chan, 23, from Norwalk, and Won Suk Louie Chong, 23, from Downy, were arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Kaing and Chong were also charged with vandalism and burglary and are being held at Santa Barbara County Jail on $30,000 bail. Chan is being held on $20,000 bail.
