The working group in charge of creating a master plan for Goleta Beach will meet this afternoon at 4 in the Santa Barbara Airport administration building.

The group is meeting to review the results from the visioning sessions, which were held in September and October to get public input on the future of the beach. The group will also develop questions for its science advisers, who have been appointed to help the group understand coastal processes and the potential impacts of certain proposals.

The working group will make a site visit to Goleta Beach today, and a science advisers’ workshop will be held Thursday, Jan. 22.

Currently the group is securing repair work to the pier, which includes parking lot slurry, revetment repair and potential paving. According to the working group, $100,000 is available for this project, both from the county and from donations from organizations such as the Goleta Valley Land Trust.

The working group consists of representatives from UCSB, the Goleta Chamber of Commerce, the Surfrider Foundation, the Friends of Goleta Beach and Goleta City Council, among others.
