Wednesday, April 27, 1988: First random comment in the weather ever.

The Weatherperson retired on April 27, 1993. The next day’s weather read “closed for remodeling,” and then the staff tried to replace the weather with a “nice weather” column complete with lame drawings of suns and clouds and random stuff. They brought the Weatherperson out of retirement two weeks later, and future generations were saved.
