Editor, Daily Nexus,

The second annual People’s March for Economic Justice will be held this Saturday at noon in Ortega Park (corner of Ortega Street and Salsipuedes Street in downtown Santa Barbara) and will continue down State Street to the Sunken Gardens.

The march has been endorsed by over 50 organizations representing widespread unity among campus and community groups that have come together under the common theme of economic justice. Economic justice is the idea that the economic system should serve the interests of the people who are a part of it. A rally following the march will feature a number of speakers representing groups in the SB community who believe that fundamental change is necessary to achieve true justice for all people. Issues such as the living wage, fair housing and workers’ rights will be discussed.

The keynote speaker for the event is former Green Party presidential candidate Ralph Nader, who will discuss a number of local and global economic issues. I encourage my fellow students to support the march by spreading the word, joining in and otherwise informing yourselves about the economic injustices that occur increasingly in our community and around the world.
