The Isla Vista Project Area Committee is working on a master plan for Isla Vista and needs more student input on needs and suggestions for improvement in I.V. While this design effort has had strong business, family and landlord participation, more student participation is needed. We particularly need constructive ideas regarding critical issues such as housing, parking, transportation, safety and quality of living conditions.

We have had some active participation by students after the presentations but much lower activity in the planning meetings. Sometimes I am the only student providing input and counterpoint. Sometimes no student is present.

Isla Vista has a wonderful opportunity to advance all of the major aspects of the community, and you could contribute. The “Work in Progress” presentation is at St. Mark’s Church at 6 p.m. Friday. The design team will take contributions after the presentation. The design team has also been open to input in between presentations, and reasoned contributions from students could be quite beneficial. I believe that we really need more constructive student voices in the dialogue.
