Editor, Daily Nexus:

For want of a more direct way to express my gratitude, I would like to use this letter to thank the gardeners at UCSB for their incessant work on campus. In a place as picturesque as Santa Barbara, it seems rather difficult to produce something outstandingly beautiful, and yet – they manage. There doesn’t seem to be any great necessity for putting an explosion of colors onto little pieces of earth that most people, on most days, will rush by on their way to the next engagement. After all, who has time to stop and smell the flowers at this point in Spring Quarter?

Of course, you could say, “It’s their job!” True enough. Yet it does seem that they put the extra bit of proverbial “umph” into it, without knowing that it will be appreciated.

Well, it is.
