After upsetting #22 UNLV on Thursday, the UCSB men’s basketball team was unable to contain #10 SDSU at the Viejas Center in front of a sold-out crowd on Saturday night.

Aztec forward Malcolm Thomas led all scorers with 18 points in the victory, missing only one shot from the field. SDSU shot 56.1 percent on the night – including 12-24 from behind the arc. UCSB shot 39.1 percent on the night. The junior duo of guard Orlando Johnson and forward James Nunnally combined for a quiet 15 points each, going 10-29 from the field.

The Gauchos’ winning streak ends at three after the loss, and the team drops to 5-4. SDSU improves to 12-0.

UCSB returns to the Thunderdome for a three-game home stretch against California Baptist on Dec. 21. The team plays its first Big West game against rivals Long Beach State on Dec. 28, who lost to the Gauchos in the Big West Tournament Championship last season.
