The University of California Education Abroad Program has suspended all Fall Quarter and Semester 2020 study abroad programs due to the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Myla Edmond, UC Education Abroad Program (UCEAP) spokesperson, the fall 2020 study abroad program cancellations affect 3,313 students and 103 programs.
Uncertainties about travel restrictions, anticipation of a “second wave” of the pandemic and “how well universities abroad will be prepared to support exchange students this fall” contributed to the decision to suspend all fall programs, according to an email from UCEAP sent to students scheduled to study abroad in fall.
According to the email, students will not be charged withdrawal or cancellation fees as a result of the suspended programs and will have the option to either transfer their applications to the spring or apply for the Fall 2021 term.
39 UCEAP fall programs had already been cancelled by their host universities, according to the UCEAP website, but today’s decision marks a university-wide cancellation affecting all nine UC campuses.
In early April, UCEAP suspended all spring and summer 2020 programs in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
