The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department confirmed six new cases of coronavirus on Thursday, adding to the three cases that were confirmed earlier this week.
Two of the new cases are North County residents, both in their 30s, according to a press release from the SB County Public Health Department. The other cases are South County residents, one resident in their 20s and two residents in their 50s. Until today, no cases of coronavirus had been announced in South County.
A South County resident whose age was not disclosed was also diagnosed, Noozhawk reported, bringing it to a total of nine cases in the county.
Santa Barbara City College President Utpal Goswami confirmed in a press release today that one of its students tested positive for the virus; the student “is enrolled in a single course this semester,” Goswami said in the press release.
“PHD is taking steps to identify persons who may have had close contact with these people, including friends, family members, or health care professionals. PHD is conducting a thorough investigation to determine how the latest five cases contracted COVID-19,” SB County Public Health Department said in the press release.
On March 16, the department announced the first positive case of coronavirus in the county, a North County resident in their 60s. A day later, the department announced that a second person tested positive for coronavirus, a North County resident in their 50s.
On March 18, the department announced the third positive case of coronavirus in the county, a North County resident in their 60s. The resident was a family member of the first positive case in the county, according to the press release.
