A UC Santa Barbara student died from an accidental alcohol and drug overdose at a party on July 5, the Santa Barbara County Coroner ruled in an autopsy.
Police found the body of 20-year-old Nikola Kapamadžin at a home on 6793 Estero Drive and determined that he was dead at the scene, according to Kelly Hoover, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.
The results of a toxicology test showed that Kapamadžin’s blood alcohol concentration was 0.217 at the time of death, and he had cocaine, benzoylecgonine, alprazolam, MDA and MDMA in his system.
Benzoylecgonine is the primary substance that the body uses to process cocaine.
Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), is often referred to as ecstasy or molly and is used as a party drug. A similar drug found in his system, methylenedioxyamphetamin (MDA), is known as “Sally” or “sassafras.”
Alprazolam is a drug commonly used to treat anxiety and panic disorders and is often sold as the name-brand drug Xanax.
Kapamadžin had previous experience with alcohol and drugs, according to a friend of his who did not want to be named due to privacy concerns.
Hoover said police do not suspect foul play in Kapamadžin’s death.
The complete coroner’s report is expected to be completed next week, according to SBSO spokesperson Kevin Huddle.
Kapamadžin was entering his fourth year as a mathematics major in the College of Creative Studies. He was conducting research in electrical and computer engineering during the summer.
The UCSB campus flag was lowered on July 12 to honor Kapamadžin’s life.
Jesus Christ, what a concoction. Much respect and well-wishes to his friends and loved ones, but what an unfortunate decision to mix so many substances.
this article is so disrespectful. you have no right releasing this info to the public, especially his address and blood alcohol content. you should be ashamed of yourselves, have a little decency and respect for the dead.
What a snowflake
How are the facts disrespectful? I didn’t see the author attempt to pass any sort of judgement on his choices whatsoever.
These are important facts which can show the risks of mixing drugs.
went out like a legend
Take this shit down
The public has a right to know!
I took a nostalgic trip to the campus and IV last year. I was absolutely shocked at the amount of stoned or drunk students. I find it heartbreaking that there lives are so miserable that they must be loaded to enjoy it.
oops, I meant “their” lives.
UCSB has been known as a party school for like 35 years. Knock it off with the pearl-clutching.
So you think it is prudish to lament depressed students taking to drugs? Really?
No I think it’s ridiculous to think it wasn’t happening when you were a student too.
So . . Then it is OK with you?
Geez – that’s a shame. The sad thing is that all of the people partying with him were also (likely) jacked up as well… so they probably just thought he passed out. When they realized he didn’t merely pass out, it was too late.
Jedi Juice
What exactly is jedi juice? Can you please explain?
