Lorenzo Basilio/Daily Nexus

It has been nothing short of a privilege to cover UCSB athletics for the Daily Nexus. I am beyond thankful that I have had the opportunity to be involved with such a wonderful press.

My four years here as an undergraduate have flown by and with only one week left, I sit in bewilderment pondering where the days have gone. The answer becomes lucid when I think back to the extraordinary people I have met and the countless memories I have made.

I came to UCSB looking for that perfect college experience. As I sit on the cusp of graduation, I can say with certainty that it has been just that. From walking along the ocean after I finished class to crazy nights in Isla Vista, the experiences have been unforgettable.

I have made lifelong friends and have accomplished feats that I never dreamed I could. I have survived rigorous courses and kept time to enjoy the beauty of this area with the best people.

I have also been involved in many organizations around campus.

Getting involved has made a huge impact on my college experience, and I encourage everybody to explore these exceptional groups.

Perhaps the greatest decision I made, however, was deciding to become a staff writer for the Daily Nexus. Since I was a kid, I have always had a love for sports and was passionate about my writing. I was lucky to find an organization that so tremendously encapsulated the two.

Over my tenure, I have covered a wide variety of sports. From rivalry games to lowly exhibitions, attending these athletic events has been a pleasure. There is nothing better than taking a break from the stress of papers and exams to cheer on the Gauchos.

I would like to thank my editors for helping me grow as a writer and putting such dedication into making this paper so great. I would also like to thank the athletes and coaches who have been a delight to speak with.

As my collegiate career comes to a close, I have such an appreciation for the whimsical paradise that we Gauchos are able to call home. I have seen this community band together through tragedy and revel in the splendor of good times. I have been blessed to call myself a Gaucho. Olé!
