A man survived a 40-foot fall off a cliff along the 6600 block of Del Playa Drive at about 1:15 a.m Sunday morning, according to the Santa Barbara Fire Department.

The man was taken to Cottage Hospital and sustained moderate injuries, but it is unclear if alcohol or drugs were involved, according to officials. Since 2005, a total of nine people have fallen off the Isla Vista ocean bluffs, including this last incident, and four of these accidents have resulted in death. Last spring, 18-year-old Cal Poly San Luis Obispo student Giselle Ayala fatally fell during Deltopia celebrations, 21-year-old UCSB student David Propp passed away after a tragic fall in 2012, 22-year-old UCSB student Noah Krom passed away after a fall in 2009 a week before graduation and 22-year-old SBCC student Tyler Von Ruden tragically fell and passed away back in 2005.
