The Isla Vista Foot Patrol responded to a burglary, a sexual assault, vandalism, drug possession and several alcohol-related crimes this weekend.

Deputies received a report of a theft on the 6700 block of El Colegio Road at 3 p.m. on Friday. According to IVFP Lt. Ray Vuillemainroy, the suspect entered the residency through an unlocked door.

“The suspect stole two laptops, a camera, cash and credit cards,” Vuillemainroy said. “The suspect made several charges on the stolen credit cards, and the investigation is ongoing.”

The IVFP initiated an anti-burglary campaign in March encouraging residents to lock their doors and windows before leaving their homes. Vuillemainroy said the number of burglaries has dropped by nearly 50 percent since the program started.

“In March 2010 we had 27 residential and commercial burglaries, and in March 2011 we had 13,” Vuillemainroy said. “In April 2010 there were 28 compared to 14 in April 2011.”

The IVFP also discovered an individual tagging a utility device on the 6500 block of Del Playa Drive at 11:12 p.m. Friday. Vuillemainroy said deputies arrested the male suspect after he tried to conceal the tagging equipment.

“While on foot patrol, Senior Deputy Henricks saw a juvenile suspect writing graffiti on a wooden electrical box,” Vuillemainroy said. “The suspect saw the deputy and attempted to hide his markers. The juvenile was contacted and arrested for the vandalism offense.”

Additionally, deputies responded to a report of a sexual and physical assault on the 6600 block of Abrego Road at 12:30 a.m. on Sunday. According to Vuillemainroy, a male suspect groped a female victim and instigated a confrontation with her boyfriend.

“A suspect grabbed a female’s breast, which started a fight between her boyfriend and the suspect,” Vuillemainroy said. “The suspect then punched the boyfriend in the eye, resulting in him receiving seven stitches. The suspect fled the area on foot and is not in custody at this time.”

Officers responded to a suspect injecting heroin near a parked car on the 6700 block of Del Playa Drive at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday. Vuillemainroy said the male suspect began convulsing after UCPD Officer Hashimoto, a member of IVFP, confronted him for questioning.

“After being contacted by law enforcement the suspect began having seizures,” Vuillemainroy said. “The suspect was transported to the hospital by paramedics. The suspect had a large bindle of heroin, a digital scale and $540 cash on his person.”

IVFP also handled several alcohol-related crimes throughout the weekend, citing 10 people for minors in possession, three for noise violations, two for open containers and one for public urination.
