The UCSB women’s tennis team swept its doubleheader at home on Saturday, dominating Cal State Stanislaus and Cal State Bakersfield 7-0 in each match. The wins improve the Gauchos to 3-1 on the season, while the Warriors and the Roadrunners fall to 0-2 and 2-4, respectively.

“It went about as well as a match could go,” junior Jill Damion said. “It was a good day, [we had] a solid team effort all around.”

Damion took care of business against Eng, winning both sets 6-2.

Lozano was challenged in her #1 singles match against Preikschas, eventually winning a tiebreaker for the third set 12-10.

“We’ve been working hard,” Lozano said. “We built momentum and are more confident for the next game.”

“[Winning] gives us more confidence, but we’re taking it one match at a time, building off of each win,” Dockendorf added.

In the second match, the Gauchos impressed again as Bakersfield did not win more than three games in any set. Both matches showed that the Gauchos do what good teams do: beat the teams you are supposed to beat.

“We expected to beat these teams, but it definitely added to our confidence,” Dockendorf said. “It’s a good start to our season.”

While the team expected these wins, they made a point of sweeping each match to conserve energy for a doubleheader.

“Coach told us to be economical about it and get it done as quickly as possible,” Damion said.

The Gauchos have now won 19 straight individual matches, dating back to last week against Northern Arizona.

“No one wanted to be the person to lose a match,” Damion explained. “We [only] lost about two sets yesterday which was pretty impressive.”

The next match for the Gauchos is this Friday at home against #75 Wyoming at 1:30 p.m.
