The U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency is providing federal aid to local governments in California to hasten recovery in areas afflicted by severe winter weather.

The funding is open to state governments, local governments and private nonprofit organizations to fix or replace facilities suffering storm, flood or debris and mud flow damage accrued between Dec. 17, 2010 and Jan. 4, 2011. Eligible counties include Santa Barbara, San Diego, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside, San Luis Obispo, Inyo, Kern and Kings.

The federal government will hold briefings in affected areas to explain the application process for eligible recipients of the grant.
