The Isla Vista Foot Patrol responded to less crime than average this weekend, handling an assault, burglary and several alcohol-related incidents.
Deputies discovered an 18-year old male on the sidewalk in front of the Santa Catalina dormitory at 11:45 p.m. on Saturday. According to IVFP Lieutenant Ray Vuillemainroy, the individual had been assaulted and left unconscious.
“[He] was punched in the face and knocked unconscious in front of the apartments,” Vuillemainroy said. “That person was taken to the hospital and deputies are still following up on the case.”
IVFP also responded to a report of a burglary on the 6600 block of Sabado Tarde Road Saturday afternoon. Vuillemainroy said the suspect entered the residency and stole computers.
“The victim reported that during the evening a suspect came in through an unlocked door and took two laptops,” Vuillemainroy said. “Once again we are asking students to lock their doors and windows before they leave their homes.”
Despite the county’s newly enacted Social Host Liability Ordinance, officers have not yet issued any citations for infractions.
“I am not expecting a lot of tickets to be given out. It is just cold so it has been pretty quiet, which is always a good thing,” Vuillemainroy said.
According to Vuillemainroy, the IVFP will continue issuing SHO warnings until sometime in February as part of an education period for Isla Vista residents.
Officers also dealt with multiple alcohol-related crimes throughout the weekend, issuing seven citations for minors in possession, three for noise violations, one for an unruly party and one for an open container. The IVFP also made three arrests for public intoxication.By Garik Hauer
