The Associated Students Finance Board distributed $26,262 to 13 student organizations during last night’s three-and-a-half hour meeting.

The board fully funded the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Santa Barbara Investment Association, CalPIRG, Students for Justice in Palestine, Environmental Affairs Board, Muslim Student Association and Black Student Union. The board also partially funded the Latino Business Association, M.U.S.I.C. Club, National Society of Black Engineers, Mock Trial Team, Alpha Kappa Alpha and ASHA.

The Santa Barbara Investment Association was among the student groups that presented last night. The organization requested financial support to fund a presentation on investing that will also allow students to network with banking and accounting executives.

SBIA President Stephen Miter, a third-year economics major, said the event is meant to help students cope with the economic crisis.

“Since the economic crisis in 2008, there’s been a meltdown in terms of investment strategies,” Miter said. “What we’re trying to do is show UCSB students how to invest properly.”

The board ultimately fully funded SBIA’s event.

Additionally, the Technical Services Committee received full funding to hold a workshop on constructing personal computers.

Chair Dmitriy Gekker, a third-year chemistry major, said the educational event is appropriate for the university setting.

“It’s basically something that I feel can make an interesting presentation for people,” Gekker said. “First of all, it’s an educational sort of event. You get to learn how to build a computer.”

Finance Board member Marcus Rochelle said the computer in the works is more powerful than any currently in use by Associated Students.

“This is an $800 computer that whoops any in the A.S. office,” Rochelle said. “I think we should applaud them for what they’re doing and let them do their own thing.”

The board eventually funded TSC $804.
