Rogue Wave’s fourth release, the wildly inconsistent Permalight, demonstrates the band’s continued schizophrenic experimentation. On this auditory outing, the band mixes its soulful, acoustic side (which it does quite well) with its unfortunate electro-pop side. The album goes back and forth between these two aesthetics anxiously, as genres switch not only in between tracks but sometimes within the structure of a single song.

A sure-fire way for an artist to build up anticipation is to release nothing but excellent music and to only release an album once every half-decade. This is exactly what the Gorillaz have done in order to excite fans over the group’s upcoming album, Plastic Beach. Having done virtually nothing, save for a quietly released B-sides album, since 2005’s critically acclaimed Demon Days, expectations are at an extreme high for the latest effort from the Gorillaz.
So the Weatherhuman realized that there may have been some miscommunication with yesterday’s forecast.

Lost in the shuffle of this impassioned debate is an important issue that should concern all Americans: freedom of speech. Coffeehouses emerged in London in the 1650s and were known as “penny universities” due to the price of the coffee and their pivotal role as a public space for the dissemination of new ideas. Here, people from all different levels of society could engage freely in debate over politics, culture and society. Since then, the price has changed quite a bit, but whether it is the caffeine, relaxing atmosphere or tasty drinks that keep you coming back, coffeehouses have retained a special spot in society today. This week, On the Menu takes you off the beaten path of Starbucks-studded streets to a couple of one-of-a-kind coffee shops.
University of California students enrolling in the Education Abroad Program during the coming years will face program fees that could cost more than the price of UC tuition.
The end of February saw the Gaucho men’s and women’s lacrosse teams seriously developing their midseason identities. The men traveled to the University of San Diego on Sunday where they got a 14-12 win to even their season record at 3-3. For the women, the week’s play started on Wednesday, when they routed #19 USC by a score of 15-6. They then returned home to face #4 UC Davis and eked out a 19-18 victory on a last second goal to remain undefeated at 9-0.
Dark coils of hair decorate his chest, and his muscular arms grip my waist with a lusty firmness. He rips off my underwear and pushes me against the wall and… whoops! Sorry, guys. Didn’t mean for you to walk in on that fantasy.
