The Euro-trip is a time-honored rite of passage for middle class white people. It’s considered a safe place to travel and reconnect with history, whatever that is. “Hostel” takes that formula and flips it on its ear. While lacking anything resembling a plot, this is one of the hardest, most stomach turning movies ever made. Eli Roth really nailed the gore factor. I don’t care if you can’t take the eyeball scene; it’s the Achilles tendons being sliced apart that really gets me.
