The Isla Vista Foot Patrol arrested 17 people, issued over 30 citations and responded to cases of sexual battery, physical assault and theft this weekend.
Deputies arrested a male at 2 a.m. on Saturday at the corner of El Embarcadero and Del Playa Drive. According to Lt. Ray Vuillemainroy, officers saw a woman hit a man in the face. When officers intercepted, the woman told them she had been sexually assaulted.
“She punched him in response to him grabbing her butt,” Vuillemainroy said.
The male was arrested and charged with sexual battery.
Vuillemainroy said there was another sexual assault case this weekend on the 6500 block of Del Playa. The case is currently under investigation, and no information can be released at this time.
IVFP also responded to a physical assault case at 1:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. Vuillemainroy said officers received a report of a fight between 10 to 15 people on Camino del Sur and Sabado Tarde Road.
“Upon deputy arrival, they came in contact with a victim who said he was knocked unconscious,” Vuillemainroy said. “He was transported to Goleta Valley Hospital and we have been unable to identify any suspects.”
Vuillemainroy said there were three reported burglaries this weekend, all of which happened during Saturday morning and afternoon. The first burglary occurred on the 6300 block of Trigo Road, when a burglar entered through an unlocked sliding glass bedroom door while the owner and a friend were asleep in the room. The unknown suspect stole a laptop, two backpacks and a wallet.
The two other thefts occurred on the 800 block of Embarcadero del Mar and the 6600 block of Del Playa.
Vuillemainroy said students could easily avoid theft by locking up their residences before leaving.
“Keep your doors and windows locked,” Vuillemainroy said. “All of these suspects entered through unlocked doors or windows.”
Of the 17 arrested this weekend, the IVFP confirmed that five were UCSB students.
Deputies issued 20 citations for Minors in Possession of alcohol, seven citations to people with open containers and eight other citations for alcohol-related crimes.
