The Isla Vista Foot Patrol responded to calls over the holiday weekend, one concerning the death of a veteran. Officers were also called upon to handle an attempted suicide, drug arrests, burglary, vandalism and alcohol-related arrests and citations.

A 67-year-old disabled veteran was found dead Saturday night at a residence on the 6500 block of Seville Road. IVFP Deputy Freddy Padilla said the man, who was not a tenant, was found by one of the residents of the house.

“A roommate tried CPR and when the paramedics arrived, they said the veteran had been dead for a while,” Padilla said. “The disabled veteran’s death appeared to be natural.”

There was no report on how the man found his way into the I.V. home.
The IVFP received a startling phone call Saturday night from a mother of an I.V. resident, stating she believed her son was suicidal.

Padilla said deputies went to the young man’s home on the 6700 block of Camino Del Sur and found an “intoxicated male with empty pill bottles around his bed. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation.”

There have been no reports regarding his current state.

Authorities arrested two people for possession of drugs Friday night.

“These two male subjects were arrested for the possession of dangerous drugs,” Padilla said. “One male subject had 15 pills of ecstasy, and the other male had prescription Vicodin pills.”

Deputies arrested a man who had stolen a laptop on the 6700 block of Camino Del Sur at 1:30 a.m. on Sunday. Padilla said a man called from around the time of the arrest to report a stolen laptop. The laptop was returned after an owner confirmation check and the man was arrested for burglary, invasion of property and giving false information to a police officer.
