Gauchos Swimming at Pacific

The #17 UCSB women’s water polo team, seeded fourth in the Big West Conference’s inaugural postseason women’s water polo tournament, will play #25 Pacific on Friday at 4 p.m. in Stockton in a rematch of the 4-3 loss the Gauchos sustained against the Tigers on March 29.

ASA Event To Commemorate Mass Murders

In commemoration of the nearly 1.5 million Armenians killed at the onset of the 20th century, the Armenian Student Association will celebrate Armenian culture tonight.

Does Floatopia Deserve Such Fury?

After reading Vice Chancellor Michael Young’s recent mass e-mail regarding the Floatopia 2 situation, I find myself conflicted. On one hand, I agree with him on the hypocrisy of some UCSB students, who tout their environmental activism only when it doesn’t interfere with their partying. However, on the other, I’m a little put off by […]

Low-fi Love at the Biko Co-op

I avoided Kimya Dawson like a plague the last time she came through Isla Vista and played at the Pink Mailbox back in 2007. “Juno,” the Oscar-nominated “indie” darling of that year, had recently come out and the soundtrack was on its way to being a #1 best seller. Council Unseats Election Hopefuls

Last night, the Associated Students Legislative Council removed three members — two of whom are current election candidates — from Finance Board before tackling the topic of racism.

Police Blotter

Fri., April 17, 11:11 p.m. — Officers patrolling the 6500 block of Del Playa Drive couldn’t help but pay attention when an intoxicated male started running back and forth down the middle of street, doing summersaults and shouting incoherently.

Psychedelic Mushrooms

Before seeing the band’s set, I was rather surprised to see a long line of students waiting to see an Israeli trance duo named after an afflicted fungus wrapped around the UCen. Last Wednesday evening in the Hub, Infected Mushroom captivated the attention of its sold-out show, its second show at UCSB in the last year. The combination of the last week before midterms plus a dash of early-quarter energy led to the intense energy within the show.

Spending 4/20 With Fleet Foxes

Two days after playing to a sweaty Coachella crowd, the musicians of Fleet Foxes must have felt a bit of déjà vu when they looked out into the crowd and saw it full of the same smiling and stoned faces looking back at them Monday at the Hub.
