Waves Wipe Out Gauchos

Just days after dropping an exhausting five set match to fourth-ranked USC, the UCSB men’s volleyball team had another chance to pull off a big upset win at home. No. 2 Pepperdine would have none of it. Fittingly enough for the day when most UCSB students were enjoying a day at the beach, the Waves swept the Gauchos away with an easy 30-23, 30-26, 30-28 victory Saturday night.

SB Runs the Show

Great Scott! After last weekend saw junior distance runner Scott Smith and junior pole vaulter Scott Finley both qualify for Regionals, this weekend’s outstanding performer at the Cal Poly Invitational in San Luis Obispo was senior thrower Scott Anderson.

Anderson redshirted during the 2008 season and has not competed in nearly two years. Despite the break the senior still managed to shot put 56-0.75 and qualify for Regionals in his first outing this year. Anderson, who has qualified for the Regional tournament in all of his four years at UCSB, is proud of his achievement, but nonetheless has much grander aspirations.

Give Us Back the Facebook We Know and Love!

It’s that time of year when students all across campus are distressed: Facebook has changed its layout again. But this time, Facebook is completely, 100 percent biting off of Twitter. The new, “improved” homepage that is now just status updates looks almost identical to the Twitter homepage, and instead of Twitter’s “What are you doing?” Facebook asks us a deeper, more profound question: “What’s on your mind?”
