The #75-ranked Gauchos improved to 8-12 on the season (3-2 Big West), and gained a big boost of momentum as they head to the Big West Championships this week. Head Coach Marty Davis emphasized the timeliness of his team’s improvement.

Gauchos Challenge for Cup in Fullerton

The Santa Barbara track team competed in the Big West Challenge Cup at Cal State Fullerton this past weekend and saw another pair of Gauchos earn bids to the NCAA Western Regionals.

Freshman thrower Irene Kujore and redshirt freshman middle distance runner Ryan Martin both qualified in their first seasons in competition. Kujore threw 158-11 feet in the discus, which was good enough for second place in the tournament and fourth place on UCSB’s all-time list. Her immediate success appears to have marked the beginnings of a very promising career.

UCSB Cleans Out Northridge

After coming all the way back from a 6-3 deficit to win the first game in the bottom of the seventh, the UCSB softball team utilized another complete-game shutout from freshman Krista Cobb to take the doubleheader against Cal State Northridge last Saturday at Campus Diamond.
