Budget Cuts Impact Student Resources

In order to stave off bill collectors, UCSB will siphon off an extra $3 million from programs and departments on campus that receive money from students.

Overconfidence Undermines Education

Something has been irking me as of late, and I get the feeling that I’m not alone here. It seems like, especially in classes related to the humanities, a vocal few dominate class discussion by espousing arrogant, narrow-minded worldviews as fact. And no, I’m not just talking about Republicans. This is a phenomenon that is […]

Advantage Santa Barbara

The UCSB men’s tennis team finally gets to stay in Santa Barbara this Friday, where they will take on Utah in what should be a thrilling match between two nationally ranked teams. UCSB goes into the match ranked #58, with Utah not far behind at #67. For Head Coach Marty Davis, the team is going to need to give everything it has to pull out a win.

The Associated Students Legislative Council debated several resolutions during last night’s five-and-a-half-hour meeting.

SB Makes It Rain on Foes

The rain may have dampened Isla Vista over the weekend, but the UCSB women’s tennis team won two home matches against Loyola Marymount on Saturday and Hawaii on Tuesday, improving their overall record to 4-1.

His plays operate somewhere between comedy and tragedy; they find a comfortable (or uncomfortable) middle ground between the hilariously absurd and the terrifyingly melancholy.

Police Blotter

Love may well have been in the air Saturday night, but so too was the familiar smell of alcohol-laden partiers.

Gauchos Gear to Grapple Tigers

The UCSB women’s basketball team will put its unbeaten conference record on the line Thursday night, when the Gauchos travel to Stockton to face off against the University of the Pacific. Big West leading scorer Amber Simmons and her Tigers are hoping to make it an unpleasant northern expedition.

Actually Lily, It IS You ***

When Lily Allen burst onto the scene in 2006 with her iconic, ska-fueled hit, “Smile,” she became the first person to transcend Internet stardom and become an honest-to-god pop idol. Her debut record, Alright, Still, went on to sell over two-and-a-half million copies worldwide and set a new status quo for female pop stars. In the wake of this success she found herself in a tabloid feeding frenzy. But, unlike many of her peers, her actual talent always seemed to remain front and center.
