The UCSB women’s tennis team (1-3 Big West conference, 5-3 overall) ended their losing streak at two matches Wednesday, beating Fresno Pacific 4-3 at the Robertson Gymnasium courts in the fifth match of their homestand.
There is something to be said for taking risks. Without great risk, there can be no great reward. Student suicide attempts are on the rise at UCSB according to campus mental health experts.
The UCSB men’s basketball team dropped their last road game of the regular season last night 57-62 to Northridge. The Gauchos (12-14, 5-8 Big West), who have posted a 3-10 road record this season, shot just 37.5 percent from the field and gave up 26 turnovers.
Sure, The clothes were pretty, and “Slumdog Millionaire” won a well-deserved seven awards, including Best Picture, but last Sunday’s 81st Annual Academy Awards ceremony was an incredibly stupid event. These were, in fact, the stupidest Oscars I’ve seen in my lifetime, despite the fact that producers Billy Condon and Laurence Mark revamped the show to gain ratings. According to the Los Angeles Times blog Gold Derby, ratings increased 13 percent from last year, but the ceremony was still stupid. Why was it so stupid?
