It occurs to me that people are all atwitter about this presidential election thing. In the spirit of democracy and voting, I decided to conduct a poll of all Nexites to find out which NFL team will win the Super Bowl. Then I thought about how much of a hassle it would be and how little I value my colleagues’ uneducated opinions on the matter and I decided to “G-Dub it” and go unilaterally.
If you have even a cell of liberalness in you, the choice between Hannah-Beth Jackson and Tony Strickland is a no-brainer. Strickland is frighteningly close to being a right-wing extremist. He created a faux environmental company shortly before the election to fool voters into thinking he is pro-environment. Planned Parenthood has repeatedly given him low ratings for his stance against abortion.
In 2006, students at UCSB voted in favor of creating The Green Initiative Fund to finance environmental projects.
The fund, which costs each student $2.60 a quarter, is now in its second year and is currently accepting proposals for potential sustainable projects on campus for the 2008-09 year.
The big news from the weekend of football? USC choked! Well, they still won. But in the process they gave up 10 points, which ended a streak of 141 unanswered points that they’d been on for 11 quarters. Wow.
Prop 1A: In light of California’s current economic crisis, it is difficult to imagine our state spending nearly $20 billion on a high-speed train. That said, we believe the train is an essential component to the viability of California’s future. For a state that consistently leads the nation with its progressive politics, we believe that […]
Democrat incumbent Pedro Nava is another obvious choice for us. He cares deeply about keeping the entire district environmentally friendly and often comes to campus to chat with UCSB students and faculty about their concerns.
The Associated Students Finance Board distributed $12,476.05 in funds to nine student organizations during their three-hour meeting yesterday.
The A.S. external vice president of local affairs was among the recipients of full funding. The A.S. executive office received $3,042,40 for “Be the Change. Live the Dream” – a week-long campaign coinciding with Martin Luther King Jr. Day to promote acceptance and tolerance of diversity.
The race between those vying for positions on the Isla Vista Parks and Recreation District Board forces us to pick the lesser of many evils. I.V. needs a board that will be able to move forward. Liz Buda, Arthur Kennedy and Marie Crusinberry will bring innovative thinking to the IVRPD board. Student Liz Buda is […]
In preparation for Halloween weekend, the Associated Students Legal Resource Center is hosting an event complete with costumes and pizza in Isla Vista tonight.
The Halloween Workshop will begin at 7 p.m. in Embarcadero Hall and teach members of the Isla Vista community how to party hassle-free, avoid the Isla Vista Foot Patrol and steer clear of the drunk tank.
Our support for Measure D does not mean we want to replace our grassy open space with nine-story department stores and massive parking lots. We endorse Measure D because we’re supportive of the fact that people are finally paying attention to I.V. and putting money toward something other than floodlights at Halloween.
