Prop 2 Protects Animals, Decreases Toxins Consumed

I am writing in support of Carly Jo Hann’s article endorsing Prop. 2 (“Proposition 2: Protect That Which You Eat,” Daily Nexus, Oct. 7). Hann clearly explains the central goal of the measure: to reduce suffering for farm-raised animals. Prop. 2 would mandate modest, common sense reform that would allow the animals we eat to be allowed basic movement within their enclosures.

Travel Agency Departs Campus

The Student Travel Association has abruptly packed its bags and closed its shop in the University Center.

He Said, She Said: Freshmen: Friends or Foes?

Saturday morning, when a lonely freshman girl wandered into my kitchen on a whim to introduce herself and complain about the dozens of water balloons that have struck her since move-in, I decided that someone should stick up for these poor, misguided newbies.

He Said, She Said: Freshmen: Friends or Foes?

All right, granted, watching the unfortunate exploits of the blacked-out freshmen gallivanting around Del Playa Drive provides a certain degree of amusement for us upperclassmen. Word of the Moment

Cartoons are my anti-drug

Do you ever go to sleep hoping you’ll wake up inside that mind-bending, McDonald’s-funded anti-drug film, starring every goddamn cartoon character that’s ever graced the silver screen? You know, the one where the Ninja Turtles and Winnie the Pooh come together in thwarting the evils of marijuana use? This wait is killing me.

Gauchos Get Blown Up, Still Depth Charge Irvine

The first weekend of Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play went as scripted for the #10 UCSB men’s water polo team, a weekend that featured a blowout 17-5 loss at #1 USC and another nail-biter against #9 UC Irvine, this time resulting in a Santa Barbara victory.

UCSB Safety Reports Exclude I.V.

While UCSB reported a marked decrease in on-campus drug and alcohol-related offenses in 2007, what happened in Isla Vista last year is anyone’s guess.

Every year the UCSB Division of Student Affairs publishes the Campus Safety Report, which provides detailed crime information and statistics concerning the campus and community. This year’s report, however, is missing a crucial element – statistics from Isla Vista.
