Nader to Discuss Political Platform

Five-time presidential candidate and political activist Ralph Nader will speak at Corwin Pavilion this Sunday.

Beginning at 3 p.m., Nader will discuss his political platform for the upcoming election, addressing issues such as national health insurance and renewable energies, and advocating for a quick withdrawal of troops from Iraq. Joined by running mate Matt Gonzalez, the Peace and Freedom party candidates will call upon Barack Obama and John McCain to open the presidential debate to other third party candidates.

UCSB Takes Ninth in Nor-Cal Tourney

New Coating To Protect Scorched Hills

In hopes of reversing the effects of this summer’s Gap Fire, the U.S. Forest Service will be coating the burned hills above Goleta with an organic material aimed at promoting new growth.

Over the next several weeks, a squadron of small planes will be making trips to the affected areas to administer a hydromulch treatment onto the 1,531 acres of National Forest land destroyed in the Gap Fire.

Men’s Club Soccer Update

The men’s club soccer team looked to continue last year’s success last weekend, opening up the season in the highly touted and prestigious San Diego Aztec Cup.

Greeks Welcome Rushees

With Rush Week drawing to a close, hundreds of potential UCSB greeks have nearly completed the process of gaining new brothers or sisters.

This year’s rush slogan – “Find Where You Fit” – sought to introduce those interested in the greek system to their options at UCSB. The week’s activities included walking and house tours, as well as formal events thrown by each fraternity and sorority. The festivities wrap up with “bid day,” when each house officially invites new members to join.

SB Off to a Running Start

UCSB proved the “S” stands for speed as the men’s and women’s cross country teams opened their 2008 seasons with a first-place finish for the women and second place for the men at the UCSB Lagoon Open on Aug. 30. UCSB continued its momentum by taking third for the women and sixth for the men at the Aztec Invitational on Sep. 13.
