Editor, Daily Nexus,
I am very intrigued as to why the Daily Nexus felt it was appropriate to endorse Steve Pappas for 3rd District Supervisor.
The purpose of a newspaper, particularly a college newspaper, is to report and provide unbiased, nonpartisan information to its readers. The Nexus not only broke this golden rule, but also gave inaccurate information as a means of swaying undecided voters.
At 64 years of age, most of us will be lucky to tie our shoes without experiencing significant pain, much less be up to the task of battling the Red Menace armed solely with a whip and archaeological wiliness gained from years of outfoxing the Nazis. However, Harrison Ford manages to do exactly that in the improbable fourth installment of the “Indiana Jones” series.
Editor, Daily Nexus,
The Daily Nexus endorsement of Steve Pappas (“For 3rd District Supervisor, the Daily Nexus strongly endorses Steve Pappas,” Daily Nexus, May 27) misconstrues many issues important to the UCSB and Isla Vista community.
If you haven’t already made it to Hatlen Theater to attend the Dept. of Theatre and Dance’s sixth-annual UCSB New Plays Festival, you still have a chance. The festival runs through May 31, and features original plays penned by UCSB playwrights. Tickets to the festival are $13 for UCSB students. Call (805) 893-7221 for more information.
Editor, Daily Nexus,
It is a privilege to know and to have the opportunity to work with 3rd District county supervisor candidate Victoria Pointer. Several local county papers have observed that Pointer’s history of voluntary service to the 3rd District, including service as mayor of Buellton, make her an extraordinary and superior choice for local voters. In my dealings with her, she has been accessible, forthright and “right-on” in her judgments about professional, civic and family issues. Her personal experience of raising three children, having a collaborative approach and being an excellent and intelligent listener contribute to her personal and professional success.
The race for 3rd District supervisor is getting heated, with even the Nexus joining in yesterday with an endorsement of Steve Pappas – and beer.
There are certain sports events at UCSB every year that make students feel like they go to a bigger sports school.
But whatever your particular reason for feeling miserable as graduation approaches, I think we can all agree that one part of life is going to decline – if not in quality, then at least in quantity – once we walk across that stage and into real life. Our sex lives will never be the same.
