I may have been blind drunk, but I still managed to watch the Super Bowl. Trust me, it wasn’t for lack of trying. After realizing that every household in I.V. would have the game blasting, I felt doomed to a fate of mediocre football without even the redemption of a whoreish halftime performer.
Half the people were naked! That’s right, back in the late ’60s and early ’70s, when I hung out at Sands Beach and further down by Ellwood Shores, on any given sunny day, half the people on the beach were naked – unashamed and unafraid.

The UCSB men’s volleyball team (4-6 overall, 3-4 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) was not a gracious host this past weekend, as the Gauchos swept the two-game match up with the visiting University of Hawaii (3-4 overall, 2-4 MPSF). In Friday’s match, the Gauchos were able to pull out a 3-2 victory, and in Saturday’s match, Santa Barbara defeated the Warriors 3-1.

Ugh. In the last couple weeks, I’ve ruined two pairs of suede shoes for stupidly sporting them during our annual Isla Vista showers and learned that not one Santa Barbara retail store sells an acceptable pair of rain boots at a reasonable price.
It was the perfect end to a fantastic season as the UCSB men’s and women’s swim teams defeated conference foes UC Davis and the University of Pacific this weekend on the road.
