For the UCSB men’s and women’s swim teams, it’s time to switch in gear, battle through gruesome competitions and feel the heat of the Big West Championships beginning today and ending Saturday. The Gauchos are seeded first on both sides, and the women are determined to defend their title as last year’s champion at all costs, while the men are hungry for the action.
I was reading yesterday’s conservative column (“Liberals Disarrange Defense Measures,” Daily Nexus, Feb. 19) and couldn’t help but feel that Mr. Dulgar was missing the point of the debate behind the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. Since his basic argument is similar to the one blaring on every news channel these days, I feel UCSB students deserve to know the real issue concerning FISA.
Tobacco company Philip Morris USA, Incorporated has awarded over $16 million in combined grants for tobacco-related research to seven UC campuses – although UCSB is no longer attached to such funding.
After a much-welcomed light week, the #14 Gaucho men’s volleyball team looks to get back into the swing of things, hosting Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rival #6 UCLA. It will be the meeting of polar opposites, with the Bruins in fourth place in the MPSF and UCSB in ninth. Despite holding a 111-28 series advantage, UCLA is looking for revenge against the Gauchos, who defeated UCLA 3-1 in the MPSF quarterfinals last year.
Contrary to a previous Daily Nexus report and claims made by protesters last week, the 2008 Army-Industry Collaboration Conference was not canceled following last week’s anti-war protest.
UCSB’s track season started strong this past Saturday at the Gaucho Round-Up.
I don’t know about you all, but when I chose this school, it wasn’t because of the Nobel laureates or the prestigious UC system. Sure that stuff is nice when looking for a job. But the real reason I came to this beautiful university is because it is right by the beach.
With all the NFL franchise tags going around, the QB is wondering when the Nexus is going to place the tag on him. If not, then he’s going to arbitration.
The city of Santa Barbara stands to lose a third of its annual utility tax revenue after a recent Internal Revenue Service ruling.
To begin, I want you to note that this is not directed at ALL of the glue-sniffing hippies from last Tuesday’s protest – just the few who told me they wish the military would disband and be done away with. Even though I am a staunch supporter of the war on terror, I have absolutely no quarrel with those who object to the war. Dissonance is what makes democracy great.
