UCSB could not grind it out in the team’s final non-conference game of the regular season. A raucous crowd at Dee Glen Smith Spectrum watched as Santa Barbara (20-7 overall, 9-4 in the Big West) fell to former conference foe Utah State 72-59 in an ESPNU O’Reilly BracketBusters game.

UCSB Struggles Mightily

The UCSB women’s water polo team did not have a fun weekend in Irvine. After falling to UC Irvine in MPSF play on Friday, the Gauchos (4-8 overall, 0-2 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) lost all four of their games in the UC Irvine Women’s Water Polo Invitational, finishing 16th in the 16-team tournament and extending their losing streak to eight games.

Despite the gloomy weather, the UCSB club men’s lacrosse team brought the heat this weekend with a pair of wins over ranked opponents in Santa Barbara. The #3 Gauchos (6-1 overall, 2-0 in Western Collegiate Lacrosse League) handled #9 Arizona 8-3 on Thursday night and ran over #21 Cal Poly 11-5 Saturday afternoon.

The #14 UCSB men’s volleyball team (7-8 overall, 5-6 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) kicked off a four match long road trip with a disappointing loss. The Gauchos dropped an important MPSF match to the reigning NCAA champions, #7 UC Irvine (9-9, 6-7 MPSF).
