UCSB student and Santa Barbara native Walker Jameson Price died on Oct. 30. He was 19.

The cause of Price’s death is still unknown, pending a toxicology report.

Born in Santa Barbara on Dec. 23, 1988, Walker attended the Summerland School, Crane School and Santa Barbara High School throughout his childhood. As a college student, Price spent one year at UC Santa Cruz and had recently transferred to UCSB where he was enrolled as a sophomore global studies major.

Walker’s father, Craig Price, said his son would be remembered as an extraordinary brother, musician and student.

“Walker was a talented musician who wrote a lot of music,” Craig Price said. “I know people around town who are listening to his music on their iPods… he was a remarkable kid.”

Walker’s mother Tricia Price, a principal at both the Summerland and Aliso Elementary schools, said her son was happy to have moved back to Santa Barbara after living in Santa Cruz for his first year of college.

“He certainly loved being back in Santa Barbara,” Tricia Price said. “He always said UCSB had the best looking girls. He was delighted to be back amongst them and his friends here.”

Tricia recalled her son’s enthusiasm for writing music and his involvement in the Music Dept. on campus.

“His passion was music, and he was thrilled about music on campus and the opportunity to make more,” Tricia Price said. “He was a composer and a musician, played the guitar and he inspired a lot of younger musicians, including our nephew. We miss the music. The loss is so great that it’s hard to focus on the gift that was Walker Price, who was an amazing young man.”

According to Craig Price, his son was found at his home in Santa Barbara on Oct. 30 and was unable to be revived.

“He was in the process of studying for his midterms when he was found deceased at home,” Craig Price said. “We were are still awaiting the results of a toxicology, but as of this time, we do not know the cause of this death.”

Grant Robertson, a fourth-year sociology major and lifelong friend of Walker, said he valued the years he spent with him.

“Growing up with Walker was a true privilege,” Robertson said. “For over 20 years, my family has shared many great memories with the Price family. Birthdays and holidays are full of memories with Walker and his sisters. Always putting his loved ones first, Walker was the epitome of a great friend. My condolences go out to the Price family and those who loved Walker. I miss you, buddy.”

Walker is survived by his parents, Craig and Tricia Price, and his siblings Mallory, Hadley, Nick and Jennie Price.
