Sigma Nu has raised an unprecedented $10,000 for the Isla Vista Youth Projects center, breaking their own philanthropy record.

While the events took place last quarter, a final tabulation of the proceeds was recently made available and shows that the fraternity surpassed its previous best attempts.

Funds generated at Sigma Nu’s fall philanthropy event will benefit the IVYP, a non-profit organization founded in 1971, which provides services for the children and families of the I.V. community. The center offers child development programs as well as after-school and summer enrichment programs. The organization also provides a Family Resource Center to help families meet primary needs within their homes and community.

Sigma Nu President Garrett Sacks, a third-year political science and philosophy major, said community service is an important dynamic of the greek system and the Sigma Nu Relays embody the system’s spirit of philanthropy.

“We enjoy giving back to the community,” Sacks said. “It’s very important for the haves to give to the have-nots.”
