British alternative rock band Radiohead announced yesterday that it will stop in Santa Barbara on its upcoming North American Tour.

While the group announced no dates or venues for its shows, the first half of the North American Tour is expected to take place before its July 8 European Tour, and wrap up following the completion of the band’s excursion on the continent.

Following the expiration of its seven-record deal with recording company EMI, Radiohead created a media frenzy with its decision to eschew traditional media outlets in the distribution of the critically acclaimed In Rainbows.

The album was available for download at any price chosen by the consumer – including free – until Dec. 10 via www.inrainbows.com. Following that date, however, the album is available only for retail price at most music outlets. In Rainbows is also available as a discbox priced at about $80 USD. In addition to a CD, the discbox contains a second disc with eight b-side tracks and two 45 RPM vinyl records.

In Rainbows debuted at number one in the UK, and also topped Mary J. Blige’s Growing Pains to claim the number-one spot on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart this week.

Radiohead’s last stopover in the American Riviera was in 2001, where it played the Santa Barbara Bowl.
