The UCSB women’s tennis team went on a three-game road trip in Washington State this weekend, but lost two of the three games it played.

Due to a change in schedule, the Gauchos (10-8 overall, 3-2 in the Big West) began play against Idaho (13-8) instead of originally scheduled Gonzaga, losing 4-1. Santa Barbara’s only point was registered by freshman Tova Hausman as she defeated junior Lauren Shrubb 6-3, 6-4. Hausman also won her match in doubles play, joining junior partner Brittany Kausen for an 8-4 victory. However, neither of the other two doubles pairs could pull off victories.

In the #2 singles spot, freshman Carina Bjornstrom fought back to win the second set 6-4 after losing the first 6-4, but could not claim the third, which ended 6-1. Freshman Asagi Onaga stepped in for junior Charlotte Scatliffe at #3 singles, but fell 6-1, 7-6.

After losing to Idaho, the Gauchos stayed in Pullman, Washington to take on Eastern Washington (7-13), defeating the Eagles 5-2. Santa Barbara got off to a quick start, sweeping the doubles matches to take an early lead with the doubles point. Marta Simic, playing in the #1 singles spot, lost a tough match in two sets 7-5, 7-5. Senior Kristen Wilson struggled at the #6 spot with a 6-2, 6-4 loss. Both Onaga and Hausman played three-set matches. Onaga won 6-3, 4-6, 6-1, and Hausman defeated her opponent 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.

The following day, the Gauchos lost to #41 Washington (14-10) 6-1. Scatliffe earned the lone point, playing for the first time in three matches, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

The Gauchos play their regular season finale against conference foe Long Beach State on Wednesday.
