Students are rocking out for a good cause this Friday at the Sub City “Take Action Tour,” presented by After Hours at the Hub. Brought to UCSB by AS Program Board, doors open at 8:30 p.m. for the 9 p.m. soldout show. The tour was founded by Hopeless & Sub City Records to raise awareness about suicide. Ten percent of the tour’s proceeds will go to the Youth America Hotline, a peer youth-to-youth crisis line created for suicide prevention.

Sugarcult guitarist Marko 72 is a local advocate for the cause. “This tour is about so much more than just music. It’s a way to get information out to kids who might be at risk,” Marko 72 said.

A number of bands are lined up to break the silence and stigma of suicide and bring some noise to the issue. This year, the tour features a large diversity of music, including indie, punk, screamo and hardcore music. In the past, the tour has featured several big-name bands, such as Matchbook Romance and Jimmy Eat World. This year, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus will be added to that list. Hailing from Middleburg, Fla., the quintet has drawn attention from the rock ‘n’ roll masses with their first single, “Face Down.” The group will be performing songs from their debut album, Don’t You Fake It, which features straight-forward rock.

The Seattle-based group Emery, an indie alternative band, which was a headliner on the annual Vans Warped Tour will also be on the lineup. Other bands performing include Arizona’s Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Orange County’s A Static Lullaby and Portland’s Kaddisfly.

For students who missed out on tickets, there are other ways to support the cause. Hopeless Records just released Take Action! Volume 6, a compilation featuring 72 tracks, as well as videos of the bands on tour and other groups rocking out for suicide awareness.
