Thursday (2/1/07): Sultry femme fatales, stoic tough guys, rough and tumble gangsters and a whole lot of sexy French accents make “Army of Shadows” one neo-noir film worth checking out immediately. Lucky for you, it’s playing at Campbell Hall at 7:30 tonight. Tickets are just $5 for UCSB students, so make sure to thank the Arts & Lectures people for hooking it up.

Friday (2/2/07): In the mood for a hot blend of the cyberpunk, science fiction and detective action genres? Check out the 3D animated film “Renaissance,” a must-see for fans of “Sin City” and “A Scanner Darkly.” The movie screens at 7 and 9:30 p.m. at I.V. Theater. Also tonight, local photographer Hutch Axelrod is hosting a viewing of his work at Gallery 1434 behind the University Art Museum. The event is open from 5 to 8 p.m. and features photographs taken in our very own Santa Barbara.

Saturday (2/3/07): Music fans and movie fans unite, and check out the Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s panel for composers, “Scoring the Film,” at the Lobero Theatre at 2 p.m. today. The panel will include “Babel” composer Gustavo Santaolalla, “Bobby” composer Mark Isham and the man responsible for the music in “Little Miss Sunshine” and “The Nativity Story,” Mychael Danna. Sunday (2/4/07): Speaking of the film festival, check out Cinematic Moods: Images from the Society of Motion Picture Still Photographers at the Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum through Feb. 10. The exhibit features a collection of photographs taken of over 50 motion picture sets, backdrops and studios and is being presented in conjunction with the festival. Check it out between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. at 653 Paseo Nuevo.

Monday (2/5/07): Go check out Heroes + Heroines tonight at Troubadour in West Hollywood. This group of guys and gals sounds like what would happen if you combined The Polyphonic Spree, your high school choir and a hefty dose of indie rock. The doors open at 7:45 and Bed, Klum, The Golden Calf and Redream will also be playing.

Tuesday (2/6/07): Dark comedy comes to I.V. tonight, as the highly hyped “Running With Scissors” plays at I.V. Theater. The film chronicles the adolescent adventures of author Augusten Burroughs, who is sent to live with his mother’s psychotic psychiatrist and his family.

Wednesday (2/7/07): Interested in revolutionary politics? Or just looking to get in good with your political science or law & society professor? Either way, check out the founder of Mexico’s Party of the Democratic Revolution CuauhtŽmoc C‡rdenas Sol–rzano as he delivers a lecture entitled “Perspectives on Today’s Mexico” at Campbell Hall tonight. The lecture starts at 8 p.m. and it’s free!
