Former executive editor of the Santa Barbara News-Press Jerry Roberts has been selected to fill the role of publications director for the Daily Nexus and La Cumbre Yearbook.

After a six-month process that involved a campus search committee, Roberts was selected for the position over two other final applicants. The publications director oversees fiscal operations and serves as the university liaison for the Daily Nexus and La Cumbre Yearbook.

Former Women’s Center Director Dee Acker and Associate Vice Chancellor of Judicial Affairs Joe Navarro have helped fill the position since the former director, Tybie Kirtman, retired last year.

Roberts resigned from his position at the News-Press this summer in response to concerns over owner Wendy McCaw’s involvement in the newspaper’s editorial decisions.

Roberts has over thirty years of journalistic experience with such publications as the San Francisco Chronicle, Pacific News Service and the San Francisco Bay Guardian. He attended Harvard University where he received a bachelor’s degree in social relations.
