Cedarwood’s Tenants Settle With Conquest

The eviction cases between Conquest Student Housing and the Cedarwood Apartments tenants concluded yesterday with all defendants accepting a settlement agreement to move out by Dec. 1. The individual cases were brought forward to Judge J. William McLafferty in Department 5 of the Santa Barbara Superior Court last Friday and were completed yesterday in front of the tearful and disbelieving tenants. Each defendant accepted the settlement that consisted of the returned security deposit, no eviction shown on their records and an extended period of time to move, the last day of which is Dec. 1.

Coveted Physics Fellowship Goes to Grad Student

UCSB physics graduate student Brian Camley Camley has combined the study of mathematics and physics to answer such open-ended questions as how many possible fingerprints exist in the world, what number of tollbooths should be set up per lane to optimize traffic and how to set up sprinklers to water a lawn most efficiently.

Redefining What Counts as Sex

“Perhaps play a little game called ‘just the tip.’ Just for a second, just to see how it feels.” I snorted with laughter, spewing Sprite and throwing popcorn all over my equally enthusiastic girlfriends. The scapegoat that keeps our very fragile “sex number” down, right there on the silver screen, glorified by Vince Vaughn. It was excellent. Living in Isla Vista, I have had the terms socially “acceptable” and “unacceptable,” in reference to number of sex partners, pounded into my head by one too many judgmental guys.

Tritons Will Test Young UCSB Tonight

With the injury bug once again striking the men’s basketball program, tonight’s game against UC San Diego will provide Gaucho fans with their first look at a young, but talented UCSB team. Following the injury to sixth-year senior guard Cecil Brown, junior guard Alex Harris will slide back over to the shooting guard position. Freshman guard James Powell is expected to get the start at point guard with fellow freshman Justin Joyner backing him up, in what will be the first collegiate game for both highly touted recruits.

Weather

What is this shit? Oh, great. Apparently smartvoter.com isn’t as reliable as the Weatherhuman’s forecasts. Wednesday’s Forecast: The ‘human endorses itself, as always.

CalPIRG Seeks Student Pledges

Poverty, global warming and high textbook prices are all due for a solution, and the UCSB chapter of the California Research Public Interest Group claims it has the answers, but just needs a few more bucks. Interns for CALPIRG have been stationed around campus since Monday and will be through Friday, encouraging students to add a $5.00 per quarter CALPIRG fee to their UCSB registration bill.

Student’s Initiative Should Be a Permanent Fixture

I am writing this letter to the editor to show my support for the Students’ Initiative, which recently passed, fair and square.

May the NBA Be With You

I know that around Halloween you want to be with someone that knows how to have a good time; someone who is really wild and makes you want to release your inhibitions and go crazy. I can identify with that, I totally get it – it’s just that for me, that person happens to be Steve Kerr.
