UCSB suffered the loss of student Alisa Naret this past week; the fourth-year biopsychology major was killed in a car accident early Thursday morning in La Conchita. Naret was driving southbound on U.S. Highway 101 on her way to a medical internship in Oxnard when the tire of a big rig driving northbound on 101 burst off the axle and flew over the center divider. The tire hit Naret’s windshield, instantly killing her.

On Friday night, 141 people were arrested and 120 were cited mostly for alcohol-related incidents. Saturday night saw a slightly higher number of arrests as officers sent more than 150 people to jail and issued 170 citations.
It was a mix of agony and ecstasy for the UCSB cross country team during Saturday’s Big West Championships.
