Baseball: Home Series Brings Success

It took four tries but the UCSB baseball team picked up its first Big West series win by taking the first two games of the weekend series against Cal State Northridge. Strong pitching paced the Gauchos (19-21 overall, 5-7 in the Big West) to a 4-2 win in the opener and an 8-4 victory Saturday, but the offense could only muster four hits as the squad fell 4-0 in the finale. The series win was the first for Santa Barbara since the beginning of April.

Politics Must Adapt

Frankly, reading about sex in the Nexus opinion pages, while being most stimulating in some senses, is not satisfying my desire for political and international intercourse. Thus the subject of this article, and if students at UCSB approach this article with the energy that they approach sex, then there may yet be hope for politics in this country.

Softball: Cal Poly Dominates Rivalry Games

The UCSB softball team turned up the heat a little too late this weekend, dropping its first two games to visiting Cal Poly 6-2 and 6-4 before winning the series finale 9-5. Saturday’s doubleheader saw six Gaucho errors, which helped give the Mustangs three unearned runs and the series victory.

Locals Light Up Night After Outage

With more than half of Isla Vista blacked out following an electricity failure Thursday night, certain I.V. residents decided to light up the streets by setting fire to more than a half-dozen couches and various other flammable furniture. Immigration Laws Should Ultimately Aid Poor Workers

I’m writing in response to Benjamin Wood’s article (“Boycott for Workers’ Rights,” Daily Nexus, April 28). Mr. Wood’s attempt to frame the “anti-immigration” segment of the debate presents a narrow-minded and unqualified picture of those in opposition to Monday’s demonstration.

Track & Field: Santa Barbara Secures Central Coast Supremacy With Win

The UCSB men’s track and field team thumped longtime rival Cal Poly in a battle of the Central Coast on Saturday.

Locals To Protest for Immigrant Rights

Thousands of people are expected to protest, strike, boycott and march throughout Santa Barbara today as part of the Great American Boycott, also known as A Day Without an Immigrant. The protests, which are part of a larger, national campaign to bring immigrants’ rights and legislation to the forefront of national debate, will occur both downtown and in Isla Vista.
